We hope you, your friends and family can join us for our annual walk up Schiehallion and flag raising ceremony. Our Summer solstice trips to Schiehallion, started in 2006 as a means of bringing everyone together from all over Scotland, for a picnic and group meditation. The event has continued on ever since. Schiehallion is close to the Brahmasthan (centre point) of Scotland. These places have a special significance for the country. The Brahmasthan embodies the heart values of the country. So we will travel to the Brahmastahn and meditate there and enliven those qualities for the whole of the nation.
Two options:
There will be a climb to the top! Meet at car park grid ref: 75 03 55 08 at 10am.
"There is no way-marking. The summit ridge is high, rocky and exposed to the weather, and summit visitors should be able to navigate, and should come equipped as for any mountain walk." - from the John Muir Trust website.
OR Enjoy a small climb and a steep picnic! Both groups will gather at 2.30pm, by the remains of an old sheep fold which is on the left of the path and a just short walk from the car park.
What to bring:
Please bring suitable footwear such as sturdy boots as there is a boulder field near the top! It is advisable to wear warm clothes regardless of the weather as it is always much cooler on mountain tops and can be breezy even at the lower level. Bring a rucksack and pack extra layers such as a fleece, raincoat, hat & gloves and don't forget your pieces* and plenty of water!! And hopefully we may need some sun block too.

The yellow road on the map joins the B846 Aberfeldy to Tummel Bridge road approx 3 and a half miles north of Keltneyburn. The car park is off the road to the left (if going North) and has a sign at the entrance "Braes of Foss".
Shee-hallion:
The book, "Mysteries of Perthshire", states that "Sithean" and "Sidhean" usually indicate fairy hills. Not far from the word "Sidha perhaps"?
Apparently "Sidhean" is spoken as "Shee-han." So, "Shee-hallion" means "Hill of the Caledonian Fairies."
I think everyone will still need their boots though! Read more

* In case you didn't have the advantage of a Scottish upbringing, this is an Ancient Glaswegian word meaning 'sandwich'.
NB Schiehallion is a Munro, over 3,000ft, so, even though there is a path all the way to the top, it's essential to follow all the usual safety guidance for hill and mountain walking.
